Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Batch Rename works in your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent anywhere, and nothing is kept after you close the page

Why should I rename photos before sending them?

Camera filenames like DSC00482.JPG or IMG_7382.JPG aren't very useful to someone receiving your photos, especially if they come from different cameras. Batch renaming gives them consistent names and numbers, making the photos easier to browse, organize and refer to

Are my original files changed?

No. You get renamed copies, in a ZIP or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, straight into a folder you choose. Your original files stay as they are, and files already in that folder are never replaced

Does renaming affect photo quality?

No. Renaming doesn't resize, compress or change the appearance of your photos. You can also choose to remove metadata without changing the image itself. Your original files are never modified

Can I rename videos and other files?

Yes, any type of file. Videos, RAW photos, documents and other files keep their contents exactly, byte for byte, and only get a new name. Photo metadata can be changed in JPG, PNG and WebP photos

How are files sorted by date?

Photos are sorted by the date they were taken, from their camera data. MP4 and MOV videos by the date they were recorded. Other files use the date they were last changed

Why add zeros in front of the numbers?

With 001, 002 and so on, files stay in the right order in every folder and app. Without the zeros some apps list 10 before 2. Type the first number the way you want them to look: 001 or just 1

What does removing the location do?

Photos from phones and many cameras save the exact place where they were taken. Removing it is useful before you share photos online or send them to someone, so they don't reveal where you live or where you found a special spot. Remove location takes out the GPS position and place names, and keeps the camera, lens and settings. Remove all takes out all the metadata, but the photo keeps its colors and stays upright. The picture itself is never changed

Can I remove Lightroom or Photoshop information from my photos?

Yes. Remove all takes out the editing software name, the Lightroom or Photoshop edit settings and history, keywords and the other metadata from JPG, PNG and WebP photos. Only the color profile and the orientation stay, so the photo looks the same

How do I add my name as the photographer?

Open Photo metadata & privacy, turn on Add creator and copyright and type your name. It is saved in your JPG, PNG and WebP photos as the creator and copyright, where Lightroom, Windows and most photo apps show it. Your name is remembered on this device for next time

How many files can I rename at once?

There is no fixed batch limit. Files are copied as they are, so even big videos are quick. A ZIP of many big files needs free space on your device

What is Batch Rename?

Batch Rename is a free online tool for renaming multiple files at once. Instead of renaming photos one by one, you can give them a shared name with numbers, like Holiday-001.jpg, Holiday-002.jpg and so on.

It's especially useful when you want to send photos to someone without the original camera filenames, organize photos from different cameras by date, or prepare a folder of images for a client.

You can also remove location and camera metadata from JPG, PNG and WebP photos before sharing them, or add your name and copyright information.

The tool works directly in your browser, without uploading your files anywhere. Your originals stay untouched.

  • Keeping photos in order: number photos by when they were taken, even if they came from different cameras or phones
  • Sending work to clients: give every photo a consistent name instead of sending a folder full of different filenames
  • Removing private information: remove GPS locations, camera details and other supported metadata before sharing photos online or with others
